International House London has always been
recognized as a centre of teacher training excellence in the ELT (English Language Teaching) / TEFL (Teaching English as a
Foreign Language) industry. It continues to offer a wide range of
quality Teacher
Training courses to meet a variety of needs and requirements.
Initial Teacher Training Qualification Courses
If you wish to acquire a basic qualification to
teach English to speakers of other languages - either in the UK or
abroad - the Certificate
in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is probably
the course you are looking for.
The Cambridge
CELTA course was originally developed by teacher trainers at IH London and is now
validated by the University
of Cambridge (Cambridge - ESOL).
To attend a CELTA
course you should:
 |
have a standard of education which would allow
you entry to higher education in your country
 |
have a high level of English
 |
be at least 20 years old

Professional Development Programmes
The next level up is the Diploma
in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) and
candidates usually should have 2 years teaching experience after
taking the CELTA
course.
Both CELTA and DELTA courses are open to native speakers and non-native speakers with a
high level of communicative competence in English.
Special Courses for Overseas Teachers
Non-native teachers of English wanting to develop
both their English language and teaching skills may find that our Teacher
Training Special Courses are more appropriate and relevant
to their needs.
These courses can qualify for Comenius
grants for EU nationals.
We also run our IH
Certificate in TEFL (not to be confused with the CELTA
course), which is aimed primarily at clients whose first
language is not English. The course is run along the same lines as
the CELTA
programme with lectures, seminars and some supervised teaching
practice.
Management Training
For the ELT professional wanting to develop either
expertise in teacher
training or to develop educational
management skills, our range of Management
Training courses will be most appropriate.
